Dolphins are marine mammals and belong to the oceanic dolphin family Delphinidae, the largest in the order Cetacea. They are greatly vary in size from 4 ft (1.2m) 90 lb (40 kg) Maui's Dolphin to 30 ft (9.5 m) 10 ton Killer Whale. Dolphins are one of the most intelligent of all animals. Porpoises are small cetaceans of the family Phocoenidae. The most obvious visible difference is that porpoises have flattened, spade-shaped teeth distinct from the conical teeth of dolphins, and shorter beaks.

Whales are marine mammals and belong to the order Cetacea. They include the largest living animal on the earth, the blue whale. Whales commonly include Killer Whales or Pilot Whales but they are actually dolphins. For centuries whales have been hunted for meat and as a source of valuable raw materials. By the middle of the 20th century, large-scale industrial whaling had left many species seriously endangered.
